‘Can’t See the Good for the Unease’ is a VHS movie trailer that features the voice of Patrick Hutchinson who kindly recorded the voice of the tree character. The character was inspired by a photograph taken of Patrick at a Black Lives Matter event at the Southbank Centre at Waterloo in June 2020.
The animation is born out of a need for equality and respect which can be achieved through love and education, something I felt strongly on viewing the photograph. The animation is recorded on VHS and contextualised with music, narrators and voices of a time gone by in an attempt to reach older audiences and promote diversity.
The trailer will be on show at Deadbeat, Stirchley between June 6th – 8th and exist as an illustration on the windows of Wildcat too (also in Stirchley).
