When I started working in digital, I was a true techno optimist. Twitter was going to change the world, the internet was going to save us… I wasn’t wrong to be excited, but I had a lot of blind spots I didn’t even know were there. Today it’s far clearer to us how technology can be both a force for positive and negative impact.
Over the past 15 years, more of those blind spots have slowly come into focus. This talk is about that journey: from hope and change to somewhere that’s hard-won and more useful. I’ll share a set of principles for making better decisions in a greenfield tech moment that has a lot of similarities with the last time.
We’re in a moment of change with AI where anything feels possible. That’s exactly why it’s worth asking: what did we learn last time?
