Dauvit Alexander began his career as a fine jeweller, aged 14. Since the late 1990s, his work has taken the skills of the fine jeweller and applied them to non-traditional materials, with a special interest in the corroded iron remnants of the industrial history of the UK. His work is featured in many books about contemporary jewellery and is held in both private and public collections, including the British Museum.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in education, both delivering and creating programmes which engage people with the world of jewellery and precious metalwork and with his colleague, Norman Cherry, has founded a CIC, “Swords into Ploughshares” to develop this thinking and deliver community-facing projects built around the practice of craftivism.

He has recently become involved in both promoting and performing grassroots electronic music.

Dauvit is currently a Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery in the Jewellery Quarter, where he teaches on the traditional craft-based HND Jewellery and Silversmithing.
