Amy Evans is a freelance Illustrator and Course Leader/ Senior Lecturer in Illustration at University of Wolverhampton and has illustrated for The Emma Press, Cico Books, Orion, and Hachette. Her debut children’s picture book, Mandy is Still a Banana, has been long listed for the Klaus Flugge Prize.
Her talk explores drawing as a tool for developing creativity, and the power of rooting creative practices in an authentic engagement in the real world. In a fast-paced, often digital industry where it is easy to get swept up with deadlines and outputs, Amy reminds us of the importance of embodied experience, connection to, and engagement in physical spaces and materials to keep the creative process genuine.
Amy has an unshakable belief that access to creative practices can change lives and she studies the transformative effects of drawing. As a PHD in Arts for Health and Wellbeing at the University of Worcester, she is focusing on promoting the embodied experience of drawing practices to address the impact of climate change on children’s mental health.
