STEAMhouse is on a mission to enable creative innovation through collaboration. Powered by Birmingham City University, we’re a supportive community and space where creative entrepreneurs, designers, students, businesses and organisations all co-exist and work together to solve real-world problems and develop new ideas. We make innovation happen, and our history is steeped in a dedication to the Midlands’ design scene.

From being a centre for tyre design and manufacturing in the Victorian era, to providing state-of-the-art facilities and expert mentorship to hosting workshops and events today, we have continually sought to empower creators to push the boundaries of their craft. Together with Birmingham Design Festival, we’re working to create an environment where creativity thrives, and groundbreaking ideas come to life. STEAMhouse Digital Labs

The STEAMhouse Digital Labs have been created to help digital designers explore, build and test their digital product and service ideas. Play around and experiment with the latest tech to accelerate your innovation and growth and be a part of our growing digital design eco-system.

Our exciting new Digital Labs facility comprises of 3 distinct but interconnected spaces:

• The Create Lab: Demystify digital innovation through hands-on experiences with the latest kit, strategic development workshops, digital skills training, and community events.
• The Growth Lab: Growth Lab workspace members receive business support, expert mentoring, collaborative diskspace, access to specialist digital equipment, and use of our Create Lab.
• The Arup SoundLab®: Explore immersive sound design, receive expert support, and utilise cutting-edge audio technology for stunning immersive audio-visual simulation.

Affordable Studio Space

Looking for somewhere affordable to locate your creative business?

Join our collaborative community to bring your designs and creative ideas to life with dedicated studio space, workstations, and beautiful natural lighting!

STEAMhouse Studio Membership is for designers who want to bring their ideas to life and work with like-minded people in a creative environment.

Get access to a dedicated co-working Studio Space, created with creative businesses and artists in mind. You’ll have option to work solo or collaborate with a like-minded community, and be invited to our community events, workshops, and socials.

Our Studio Space features dedicated workstations, on-street loading bay, and ample amounts of natural light. There’s room to break out and work on large format projects, as well as dedicated storage, a 4K presentation screen, and cafe next door!
