‘Imagine’ BDF 2023 – 8th & 9th June
We’re delighted to announce our plans for BDF 2023, a two-day event featuring the first in-person BDF Conference.
BDF returns for 2023 with a twist as we launch the first in-person BDF Conference, a day of talks from design royalty at the impressive Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Our theme for 2023 is ‘Imagine’ and we’ve invited 8 of the finest designers from around the world to share a journey through their creative mind and process on stage in front of 800 people – the biggest single event we’ve ever put on.
Leading into the day of talks we’ll be hosting a day of workshops at Birmingham City University featuring some of this year’s speakers and a few familiar faces, pop-in for one or make a full two days of it with our Conference Pass, with prices from just £75!
From pictures books to master builders, Dreams to artificial intelligence we’ll be covering multiple disciplines and backgrounds across the two days in a celebration of design that takes some of the best bits of Birmingham Design Festival and distills them into a focussed two-day event.

Birmingham Rep Theatre
We’re delighted to have a new venue hosting BDF Conference. The Rep is a beautiful 800 seater auditorium making the Conference the biggest single event we’ve ever done.
Located next to the Birmingham Library, The Rep is nice and central for easy access to bars and cafes to make the most of the built in break times during our day of talks.
Speakers
On Friday 9th June we’ll be packing into The Rep to hear from 8 incredible speakers.
We’re stoked to announce Oliver Jeffers, Gemma O’Brien, Sonal Jhuj, Lex Fefegha and Brian Collins as the first of eight, with more announcements on the way.
Workshops
Leading into BDF Conference, we’ll be hosting a day of workshops with some of our speakers and familiar faces including Anthony Burrill, Venessa Scott and Astrid Stavro.
We’re putting together the finishing touches for the workshop programme, which will be bookable soon.
