Freedom on Screen – A new commission for Birmingham 2022 Festival

In a big week for Birmingham, we’re delighted to present our contribution to the Birmingham 2022 Festival –  Twenty-four unique digital artworks that will be displayed at festival sites in July & August.

Earlier this year, off the back of the success of The Creative City exhibition, we were delighted to be asked by OPUS to commission a group of local artists to produce a series of digital artworks to be displayed at Birmingham 2022 Festival sites from 29th July – 8th August.

Birmingham 2022 Festival is a six month long celebration of creativity making the most of the spotlight on the West Midlands from Coventry UK City of Culture and the arrival of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Overall 24 artists were involved in the commission, producing an exciting range of responses to our brief celebrating Freedom (the theme of BDF 2022) and what it meant to them, today, in our contemporary global city.

You can see a small preview of the artwork and a full list of artists below, with the full exhibition happening from 29th July, in-person at Smithfield & Victoria Square Birmingham 2022 Festival sites and online at BDF.gallery.

Produced by Birmingham Design Festival and Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces, presented by Birmingham 2022 Festival.
