TypoCircle are delighted to host two playful workshops at Birmingham Design Festival this year.
We are a not-for-profit organisation bringing together anyone with an interest in design, craft and typography. We believe play is an integral part of any creative process, at any stage of career. Introduced by our Chair Louise Sloper & Alice Ishiguro Tosey, join us in welcoming and encouraging the spirit of play in our hands-on sessions.
Our morning workshop is all about ‘Typographic Truthiness’!
Coined by renowned designer Herb Lubalin, we will explore the influence type has on the meaning of its content and human psychology, and dive in to the true Superpower of Typography. We will twist, stretch and play with type and language to elevate truths or manipulate the masses. Get excited by the power of letters in a hybrid session both investigative and hands-on.
Open to everyone with a curiosity around and love of type, creative psychology and art direction.
Our afternoon session is for creative professionals, at any career level.
No typographic background is necessary, as we will collectively experiment and investigate the effects of language in communication. Together we will respond to how creativity can be a tool to forge connections across culture and language. We invite you to cut and re-assemble glyphs and characters from different alphabets to create new forms of communication through play and design. Included will be snippets of insight from some worldwide industry leaders, and friends of Typocircle, to inspire the craft of designing in different languages.
