The My Life in Design podcast is a collaboration between design-focused PR agency Red Setter and the Design Business Association. Hosted by Red Setter founder, Claire Blyth, the podcast aims to share the many different ways you can get into the design industry through guests shared experience of education, first jobs, and how they got to where they are today. Guests to date have included Pentagram’s Paula Scher, Brian Collins of COLLINS, Dines of Studio BLUP and D&AD President Jack Renwick.

In this episode of My Life in Design, recorded live in person at the Birmingham Design Festival, host Claire Blyth will be speaking to Nick Eagleton, co-founder and ‘Playful Saboteur’ of design studio Saboteur. Nick will be sharing his life in design from when he first discovered that design was something he could base a career on, his education, first jobs and how he got to where he is today as co-founder of Saboteur; a people-first agency with no formal job titles, no set holiday allowance, flexible teamwork and open communication. Nick will also be sharing his tips to young designers on how to get in and stand out in the design industry today.

Claire Blyth is the founder of the design-focused PR agency Red Setter, where she lends her expertise in the design industry to some of the world’s leading brand design teams on how to grow and shape their reputations. She is the host of the ‘My Life in Design’ podcast in partnership with the Design Business Association and a co-founder of the Creative Industry Alliance, which is campaigning to save art and design in state schools, underlining how its absence negativity affects the economy, diversity, and our cultural identity. Claire is also the co-founder of MEETING ROOM, Brighton’s regular design get-together. Through it all, she is a passionate and vocal advocate for the value that brand design brings to business and society.

Nick is a co-founder of Saboteur, an independent brand studio on a mission to set brands free. After spending twenty years as a creative lead at renowned brand agencies, Nick helped to found Saboteur on a few key principles: people-first, autonomy, transparency, and play. So, no formal job titles, no set holiday allowance, flexible teamwork, and open communication.
Alongside Saboteur, Nick is also a renowned teacher, trainer and mentor. Since 2013 he has run D&AD’s Creative Thinking Masterclass which has given him the chance to share his enthusiasm for ideas with people around the world.
