Paul McNeil

Paul McNeil is a graphic designer, visual researcher and writer with extensive experience in design education, and was formerly Course Director of the Master’s Programme in Typographic Design at the London College of Communication. The Visual History of Type, McNeil’s definitive survey of typefaces from 1450–2015, was published in 2017, and Letters from M/M (Paris), his monograph on the renowned French studio’s type and letterforms, in 2022.
Together with Hamish Muir, in 2009 he co-founded MuirMcNeil, a collaborative design practice focussed on developing both commercial commissions and independent research projects. MuirMcNeil’s work explores the use of systematic methods in editorial design, brand identity, type design and moving image.
